Kittens and cats have a way of captivating human attention. Although sentenced to 40-years-to-life of a seemingly endless career, cats wait patiently for their favorite bipedal servants to return home to them. Although sometimes it seems like we're just the thumbed roommates who open their tin cans of wet food, cats see us as so much more than that. Without their humans, who would wiggle the feather on a string? Who would clean out the litter box? Who would kiss their delicate little foreheads and sing creative songs of their feline favorites?
Exactly. Cats don't just need us to survive in this big world, they love us too.

They may not always show their affections like a pathetically pitiful dog, but cats cherish their humans in their own way. They know when their biscuit-loving bestie is on their way home from the office because they hear the garage door and they smell the job-laden despair, so they come running to our rescue. This reciprocal relationship is symbiotic for both sides. Cats get an infinite supply of affection and glory, while humans get a flickering tail to the face and a love bite to the ankles.

To me, that sounds like an extremely fair trade!

Back when I was a young child, we had two cats: Pookie and Chica. Pookie was a feral who lived her life outdoors, and Chica was a fat immortal who lazed about in the sun whenever she had the chance. Both cats held a special place in my heart, but it was Chica who really captivated me. She seemed nonchalant and blasé, as if she cared not for the toils of the humans, but when I did my special pspsps, she would come sprinting over to me for a pat on the head. She loved me more than anyone else in the family, and our bond was eternal.
Whatever room I went into, Chica was close behind.
We were a duo and doers of nothingness, and that lazy friendship was one I'll always cherish.
